Rota – White village of Cádiz

Rota is a small town on the Costa del Sol full of white houses and streets, located between Sanlúcar de Barrameda and El Puerto de Santa María. It has 16 kilometres of fantastic beaches, a beautiful and well-kept historic quarter and a very rich gastronomy.

Known for its naval base, it is a very quiet but beautiful destination. It has narrow cobbled streets, little white houses with colourful floral decorations, tiled benches and emblematic historical buildings.

Its beaches are well worth a visit, as it has 16 kilometres of coastline, with 8 beaches. They are natural beaches of great beauty, with shallow waters and little waves, surrounded by immense pine forests, where you can relax and enjoy the marvellous views.

Rota’s strong point is its gastronomy, so if you like grilled cuttlefish, you are in the right place.

The Arab presence made a lasting impact on the
cuisine of southern Spain. Rice, lemons, oranges, olives and vines were introduced, as well as many new vegetables and spices.

Typical today are barbecued meats, sauces
flavoured with cumin or saffron and sweets made from crushed almonds. Tomatoes and peppers are much used.

The region is famous for its grilled fish, especially sardines, deep fried calamares (squid) and fish baked in salt. Quality ham and pork are used widely in sausages.

Tapas were invented in Andalusia and a wide
variety of them is still served in Andalusia. Some of the best jamon Serrano (cured ham) comes from the mountains of Andalusia, in particular from Jabugo.
