The television drama "Drug Enforcement and Rabies," adapted from the manga by Takashi Tajima and Masashi Masaki, has officially announced that Daigo Nishihata (Naniwa Boys) will star in the lead role, with Yoshihiko Hosoda and Osamu Mukai playing key roles. The work delves into the shadow of drugs in contemporary society with a tense and exciting pace, realistically depicting the dark chain behind drug crimes and the struggle of humanity at its limits.
The story begins with a horrific incident at a club in Roppongi: a customer, overdosing on cocaine, loses control and stabs an employee to death. Kyonosuke Umezawa (Daigo Nishihata), a former child star now a drug dealer, struggles to maintain a dangerous and twisted life in a chaotic corner of the city. Meanwhile, narcotics officer Toru Kurosaki (Yoshihiko Hosoda), known as "Matori," is investigating the case. His near-obsessive fascination with drugs imbues his actions with a cold yet fragile complexity.
One day, Umezawa and his accomplices are preparing drugs in their apartment when the police raid them. He manages to escape but is arrested by Kurosaki and forced to accept the secret condition of becoming an informant in exchange for his freedom. Just then, Detective Katsuragi Akito (Osamu Mukai), from the Narcotics and Weapons Control Division of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, takes him away again, ordering him to "go undercover for the police." Caught between a rock and a hard place, Umezawa is forced into a hellish double life, becoming a double agent serving both "Matori" and the Metropolitan Police Department.
Set against the backdrop of the city at night, the series presents the chaos of the criminal world and the despair and struggle of the characters with greater sharpness. Daigo Nishihata's transition from an idol to a character shrouded in ambiguity has viewers eagerly anticipating his breakthrough and profound expression in dark themes.
"Drug Enforcement and Rabies" will air on MBS every Tuesday at 24:59 and TBS at 25:28 starting January 20th. With the premiere approaching, this crime drama depicting the realities of drugs and confronting the depths of human nature has garnered significant attention.
